Final Fantasy 7: Sephiroth by ZAKUGA Final Fantasy 7: Sephiroth by ZAKUGA
This is to capture Sephiroth's immense pain and loneliness, staring at Jenova's head band. Sephiroth was a hero and a good man before the events leading him to discover that he is a designed creature and not fully human. He rejected Genesis because of his desire to be a good mentor (pre ff7). Sephiroth cared for all his brothers in Soldier, Cloud, and Jenova. He never learned his true mother is Lucrecia and its vaguely suggested in earlier games that Vincent slept with Lucrecia, and she was never slept with Hojo. Hojo thought that implanting Jenova cells into Lucrecia impregnated her, however, the impregnation came from Vincent soon before, and thus making Sephiroth having 2 fathers Hojo, Vincent and 2 mothers Lucrecia and Jenova.
Sephiroth reached out to Cloud for help, when he was going crazy with grief and Cloud turned him away. Sephiroth at this point had no one. Zack, Genesis, Angeal have all died; the only people Sephiroth knew on speaking terms. Thus the tormented Sephiroth we know today.

Wow! Easily the best fanart of Sephiroth that I've seen. Your three pieces thus far are just insane! I'd really love to see you do a celestial Aeris piece. Fingers crossed lol.

As for reaching out to Cloud, when did he do that? I finished my millionth playthrough of FFVII a couple of months ago, and I only remember him being pretty conserved. It's been a long time since I've touched Crisis Core, so it probably happened in that one. We only really get flashbacks in FFVII as the original Sephiroth is long dead

What I love here is the lighting, that fits exactly the mood and torment of him, as well as the painting feel of the image.
Sepiroth is a complex character and you've rendered him very well. The two wings (one with feathers, the other looks like metal) symbolise for me his torn soul. But I may be wrong on this.

Close, the metal wing is a symbol of Safer Sephiroth

I'm very curious on the other wing, of the idea behind it. ^^ It seems like it could be an interesting concept, too.

Also, before the fight with Hojo in the original game, Hojo spoke of Sephiroth being his son. o.0

Yes, because Hojo thought that injecting Jenova into Lucrecia made her pregnant, but the truth of it was that she was already in early stages with Vincent, so Hojo took it upon himself to call himself a "father" of Sephiroth, but Sephiroth was ever just an experiment to him. The second wing takes influence from Safer Sephiroth his God Form.

Can I ask the canon references to back this up? O_o

In Lucrecia's bio it stated that she'd never return Vincent's feelings over the guilt from his father's death. She married Hojo, and after they were married, she became pregnant. It was then that Hojo and Lucrecia had spoken of using the child for the experiment. o.0

If, in theory, that Vincent would be the father, then why didn't he stop them? He was a Turk, and loved Lucrecia, so wouldn't he have the weaponry and knowledge to stop the two before it could happen like that? In being a part of ShinRa, and of knowing of a lot of places in the world based on Turks' intel, why wouldn't he try to kidnap her to make sure that nothing happened that would become FFVII?

^^' Sry... just very passionate of the game/movie series. I don't mean to sound rude or mean or anything like that.

It's fine I'm a huge lore nerd about ff7 and read the books, Lucrecia did return Vincent's feelings, and was very much in love with him (She says to vincent "I love you" mumbles in dirge of Cerberus), which is very obvious in games where they are together, but Lucrecia did not want Vincent to find out that his father died protecting her, she was too ashamed of this fact, so on a whim to distract herself entered into a loveless marriage with Hojo. Vincent did try to protect her from experimentation, this is why Hojo shot Vincent and then experimented on him as well. Since Vincent could not protect her, he lock himself under the mansion to atone for his "sins". Vincent I think always knew that her marriage was a loveless one, and that is why he continued to stay by her after the fact. I believe it is assumed Hojo never had use for sex, except for maybe rape, which is very strongly hinted at with Lucrecia's Poem "The rape of Lucrecia". The reference is from the game Dirge of Cerberus, when Vincent knew of her pregnancy only about a week or so into her pregnancy. Also Lucrecia HATES Hojo, he is so mean and she is always crying around him in the game. But when he shot Vincent she told him "I never want to lose you", Vincent was so protective of her and tried to get her out of there because I believe he knew it was his child. The parting words Lucrcia stored in her data and placed in chaos before she committed suicide was "I realize my true feelings now, Why did I do what I did? But, I'm happy you survived".

Links to references and perhaps youtube vids for others as needed? I'll go back through in seeing the Dirge of Cerberus game.

"The Rape of Lucrece" made in 1594 by William Shakespeare is the only thing I have found that mentions anything close to her name where a poem is concerned. o.0 Hence of questioning of where the reference comes from. The name Lucrecia (and its Latin counterpart "Lucretia") comes from lucrum, meaning "wealth". Lucretia was a mythical Roman figure who was infamously raped by Sextus Tarquinius.

For manners on this part though of the rape/not-rape:
The Early Material Files included with the Final Fantasy VII Ultimania Omega guide (scenes and ideas cut or changed in the final game), paint a different picture of the dynamics between Lucrecia, Vincent, and Hojo in the early character designs. Vincent's section mentions Lucrecia was originally "on Vincent's side," drugged by Hojo, and forced into experimentation against her will. In the game's final version, and Compilation canon, she was a willing albeit conflicted participant.

So I can see of the misconception of this manner on her being raped. For the means of her outright saying she loved Vincent, it is only seen as her thoughts flashing across the screen late in the game containing, among other sentence fragments, "Vincent..." and "I loved..." though never in the same sentence. So in this manner, it is only implied, but not actual fact of reciprocated feelings. For Hojo, she wasn't always crying around him in the game. ^^' She didn't cry when she'd married him. She didn't cry when she said she was going to use her own child to do the experimentation, either. ^^' Vincent stood there and let her do it after asking her of if she was sure. It's what he calls his great sin. Of choosing not to do anything. I honestly don't mind on Vincent and Lucrecia being a thing at all, and I ship them, too. :) It is a great tragic love story, and I love it, but not so much so that I speak of Sephiroth's father being Vincent.

On her suicide:
Due to the Jenova cells in her body, Lucrecia was unable to die, ending up in the Crystal Cave where she and Grimoire had discovered Chaos. She becomes encased in a crystallized fountain of natural Materia that was there when she and Grimoire first discovered the cave. It is stated in the Dirge of Cerberus -Final Fantasy VII- Official Complete Guide by Scenario Coordinator Hiroki Chiba and Producer Yoshinori Kitase that Lucrecia is still alive, that the crystal she resides in is a product of Lucrecia herself, and that her imprisonment within it is self-imposed.

I don't mean Lucrecia was raped by Hojo, I think they chose the name to represent what happened to her child and what Hojo did to her child, and kinda stole her child after that, which is what drove her to merging(?) into the chaos crystal. Lucrecia isn't alive-alive, she is now part of the birth place of Chaos, and in both games DoC & FF7 says she wanted to die, if you remember the crystal she is in now, was the original crystal Vincent's Father and her found together. (I think she tried to actually kill herself, but could not because of Jenova cells, so now is like not alive-alive..I can't put it into better words) She asked Vincent if the experimentation is just on her than she is okay with it, but it was left open if the other person to chip in was her, or her son, I always took this as Vincent might have more to do than we think, I could be wrong, but yes, Lucrecia never acted kindly toward Hojo in DoC and did cry a lot in the game, it's been a long time since I've played, but I don't remember them ever showing a wedding between Hojo and Lucrecia in any game. Do you remember how much she cried aroud Hojo in DoC? Here is when you can her murmurs of her saying I love you youtu.be/QUtpAyjWZxc?t=7m44s (If that is not what she is saying, I don't know).
